100 word story

I wrote a story for a Reader’s Digest competition: to write a story in 100 words. I was really attracted to the challenge this posed. My story didn’t win any of their prizes (but check out the ones that did, they are great) but it has been posted on their website along with others.

The story is semi-autobiographical, as most of my writing is. My mum was often ill when we were kids: pneumonia, pleurisy, her pregnancies with my brothers… The feelings expressed by the girl in the story are ones I know well.
